Analyzing the registrations of individual groups, it is clear that the biggest losses in Poland were suffered by long-distance transport semi-trailers: curtainsiders (7,569 units, -42.1% year-on-year) and box semi-trailers and reefers (3,445 units, -37.7% year-on-year). They were the ones that weighed on the final sales results, as they traditionally account for the largest share. Tippers (3,477 units, -9.4% y/y) or tankers (621 units, -17.7% y/y) fared better, although the registration results do not reflect the real situation in these segments. There, too, there is a big crisis, but it is masked, especially in the case of tankers, by the long production time and the fulfillment last year of orders from two years ago. The statistics show a change in the traditional order of manufacturers. Wielton, which has a diversified offer, jumped into second place, overtaking Krone, whose offer is mostly based on long-haul semi-trailers. The large increase in sales and market share of the Kögel brand may be surprising, but this is the result of the importer’s aggressive discount policy.
A separate category of semi-trailers is tankers. At the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, extremely different trends could be observed in this market. Bottom-dump silos associated with cement transportation fared best. Their values have begun to rise markedly, and their offerings on the secondary market have shrunk sharply. On the other hand, tipping silos, used for transporting flour, among other things, have dropped noticeably. The popular fuel tankers have not been in demand since the expiration of demand from Ukrainian carriers 2-3 years ago. However, gas tankers, which have come up for bid in sizable numbers, are seeing the biggest declines. A 15-20 percent drop in value in four months is unprecedented, but could be triggered by the embargo on LPG imports from Russia. This is likely to have blocked the operations of gas transport companies. The traditionally stable values of food and especially chemical trailers are also seeing large declines. This may indicate economic and business problems for companies using the means they transport.
