New semi-trailers
Despite the complex geopolitical situation and the volatility of fuel prices, the market for new semi-trailers has been performing very well in Poland since the beginning of 2026. Problems with soaring costs and the volatile economic situation in Europe have not deterred hauliers from renewing their semi-trailer fleets. This is evident from official registration statistics, which, however, do not reflect the fluctuations in demand driven by fuel prices. The first two months of the year saw very positive registration figures. This was followed by a sharp slowdown following the outbreak of the conflict in Iran, after which, over the following months, the market adapted to the new situation and returned to the purchasing levels seen at the start of the year. From a purely statistical perspective, registrations rose steadily, reaching 14,678 units up to and including September. This represents a year-on-year market growth of 10.1% (data: PZPM).
Used semi-trailers
As with new semi-trailers, demand for used ones was heavily influenced by fuel prices. After an excellent start to the year, there was a sharp slowdown. It was not until after the summer holidays that there was another surge in interest in used semi-trailers. Initially, this mainly concerned curtain-sided models, but it is now waning slightly, which indicates that the market remains unstable. Currently, however, demand for reefers and box semi-trailers is growing strongly.
The rise in sales in September was so significant that, over the last four months, it has led to a marked increase in market prices for these types of semi-trailers, particularly the newest ones and those aged up to 5–7 years. Reefers recorded the largest increase in market value; these had posed a major problem for the resale market in the first half of the year, and their values had recently been quite low. The lack of supply of new box semi-trailers, hampered by large fleet orders, is driving the second-hand market. For the time being, it is difficult to say whether this is a temporary rise in demand or a sustained trend indicating a recovery in the used vehicle market.
Used semi-trailer stocks
For the time being, the trends measured by the number of advertisements show no clear changes. There are significantly fewer curtain-sider semi-trailers, box semi-trailers and reefers than a year ago (down 25 per cent and 17 per cent respectively), but recently only curtain-siders and tippers have shown a downward trend. The supply of the other types of semi-trailer monitored remains relatively stable.
