The ACEA organisation has published statistics on new truck registrations in the European Union in 2025:
- 307,460 units vs. 327,775 units in 2024, representing a 6.2% year-on-year decline in registrations
- electric trucks 12,858 units vs. 7,508 units in 2024, representing a 71.3% year-on-year increase
- growth leaders: Lithuania (+58.8%), Romania (+9.4%), Poland (+6.7%)
- decline leaders: Netherlands (-40.4%), Finland (-14.7%), Austria (-14.1%)
- largest markets: Germany (77,431 units, -12.2%), France (46,079 units, -9.0%), Spain (30,989 units, -3.6%), Poland (29,946 units, +6.7%), Italy (27,709 units, -2.8%)
Statistics show differing trends in Western and Central and Eastern Europe. While the largest markets are clearly losing ground, Poland, and especially Lithuania and Romania, are making up for losses from previous years. However, the situation is improving, as the total year-on-year loss in the EU has clearly decreased in the last quarters of 2025. Demand for transport has increased, and transport rates have also risen on some routes. This allows us to look forward to 2026 with optimism, when the replacement of rolling stock purchased after the pandemic should finally begin. Barriers to market growth may include limited economic growth in Western Europe, the war in Ukraine, an extremely unstable political situation, the blockade of export markets connected with embargo on sales to Russia, and the continuous increase in transport costs.
From a registration perspective, the situation on the new truck market appears to be more stable than in the semi-trailer market (check here).
There has been a marked increase in registrations of electric trucks, although they still represent a niche market. In view of the upcoming legal changes concerning ETS2, dynamic growth in the range of products on offer is to be expected. Chinese companies with advanced electric drive technology will certainly want to get involved. This will undoubtedly change the face of the European market, which has been dominated by eight brands for years.
